Wall and ceiling skimming in Chatham. A thin smooth coat over sound but tired surfaces, leaving walls and ceilings flat and ready to paint. Clean work and free quotes across Medway.
Skimming puts a thin finish coat over a surface that is solid underneath but marked, patched or uneven. Old paper is stripped, holes filled and the surface sealed. Two coats of finish plaster go on and are trowelled flat as they set.
More Information
Sound plaster, plasterboard and most painted walls can be skimmed after preparation. Gloss and shiny surfaces are keyed or sealed first so the plaster grips. Anything hollow or blown has to come off instead, because a skim over loose plaster will crack.
Skimming is the quickest way to make an old room look new. Roller marks, filler patches, wallpaper texture and fine cracks disappear under it. Once dry, walls take paint evenly, which is where the difference really shows in the light.

STILL NOT SURE?
A standard bedroom ceiling is usually half a day to a day. Walls and ceiling together in one room is often a full day or two. Preparation, such as stripping wallpaper or taking off old coving, adds time. We give you the timings when we quote.
It is better not to. Wet plaster soaks into paper and the paste behind it lets go, so the whole lot can bubble or come away later. Stripping the paper back to a sound wall first gives a finish that stays put. We strip it as part of the job.
Yes, usually. Skimming is one thin coat over a sound surface, so there is less material, less labour and no waste to take away. Replastering means hacking off and building the wall back up. We tell you which one your walls actually need.
