Where Plasterboard Is Used

Plasterboard builds stud walls to split a room, lines the inside of solid brick walls and forms new ceilings. It is also how loft rooms, garage conversions and extensions get their inside surfaces. It goes up fast and gives a flat base for plaster.

Boarding Walls and Ceilings

Boards are cut and fixed to timber studs or dot and dabbed onto brick with adhesive. Joints are staggered and screws set just below the surface. Moisture resistant board goes in bathrooms and fire rated board where regulations call for it.

Taping, Jointing and Skim

Joints are taped so they do not crack as the building moves. From there the wall is either jointed and sanded ready for paint, or given a full skim of finish plaster. A skim gives the harder, flatter surface of the two.
