Our Services

Replastering is for walls that are blown, cracked or crumbling behind the paint. Tapping the wall tells us how much has to come off. We take the old plaster back, treat the wall and put on a fresh coat that sits flat. Our replastering page explains how to spot a wall that needs it.

Wall and ceiling skimming puts a thin, smooth coat over a surface that is sound but marked, patched or uneven. It is the quickest way to get a whole room ready for paint. Ceilings are the usual candidates. See the wall and ceiling skimming page for how long it takes to dry.

Artex removal gets rid of the swirled ceiling finish common in homes built or decorated before the 1990s. Some can be skimmed over, some needs taking off, and older artex should be tested first. Our artex removal page covers both routes and the asbestos question.

Plasterboard installation is the base for stud walls, new ceilings and dot and dab on solid brick. Boards are cut, fixed and jointed square so the skim coat has something true to sit on. Our plasterboard installation page explains where each board type is used.

House rendering covers outside walls and changes how a whole property looks. It also sheds water off brickwork that has started to weather. Walls are cleaned and prepared before any render goes on. Our house rendering page runs through the finishes and colours available.

Thin coat silicone render is a modern through coloured system that flexes slightly and sheds dirt better than sand and cement. It is often used over insulation boards. There is nothing to paint afterwards. See the thin coat silicone render page for how it is built up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long before I can paint new plaster in Chatham?

Allow around four to seven days for a skim coat and up to two or three weeks for fresh backing plaster on a solid wall. The plaster should be an even pale colour with no dark patches before you paint. First coat should be a watered down mist coat so it soaks in and grips.

How much does a plasterer cost in Chatham?

Price comes down to the size of the room, whether it is a skim over or a full replaster, and how much making good is needed first. Ceilings take longer than walls. We look at the room, give you a free written price, and it does not change unless you ask for more work.

Can you plaster one room while we live in the house?

Yes, and most of our Chatham jobs are done that way. We work one room at a time, sheet the floors, tape up doorways and keep the dust in that room. You will need to keep the door shut and the window open while it dries. Furniture can stay if it is moved to the middle and covered.
